AIR + GROUND Fiber Telemetry Kit

Direct autopilot connectivity. Integrated USB-C.
Bidirectional communication over a single fiber.

FiberLink Aero AIR and GROUND fiber-optic telemetry modules without enclosures

FiberLink Aero connects a compatible autopilot telemetry port to a ground-control computer through a matched AIR and GROUND module pair. The system provides transparent, bidirectional UART transport over one strand of single-mode fiber, carrying MAVLink commands and telemetry without interpreting or modifying the messages.

The AIR module receives power and serial data directly from the autopilot telemetry connection. The GROUND module combines USB-C power and an integrated USB-to-UART interface, presenting the
connection to the computer as a standard serial COM port.

AIR MODULE

Powered directly from the autopilot.

A compatible telemetry-port connection supplies
5 V power and 3.3 V UART signaling.
This eliminates a separate battery-rail power connection for the
AIR module and consolidates power, transmit, receive, and ground
into the telemetry harness.

GROUND MODULE

USB-C power, data, and serial connectivity.

One USB-C connection supplies power from the host computer and
carries serial data. The onboard USB-to-UART interface exposes
the optical link as a serial COM port,
eliminating a separate external TTL-to-USB converter.

Designed for straightforward integration

  • Single-fiber, bidirectional transport.
Complementary optical wavelengths carry command and telemetry
data in both directions over one strand of single-mode fiber.
  • Transparent UART communication.
Passes serial data between the autopilot and computer without
requiring the link to parse MAVLink messages.
  • ST optical connections.
A dedicated optical port on each module provides the
single-fiber connection between AIR and GROUND.
  • Visible operating status.
Dedicated PWR, LINK, TX, and RX indicators provide visibility
into module power, optical-link status, and serial activity.
  • Integration-focused board layout.
Single-side component population and accessible corner mounting
holes simplify installation into an aircraft or ground enclosure.

One continuous serial connection

Autopilot ↔ AIR ↔ Single-mode fiber ↔ GROUND ↔ Computer

AIR: telemetry-port power + UART data
GROUND: USB-C power + serial COM interface

Technical specifications

AIR power input 5 V from a compatible autopilot telemetry port
AIR serial interface 3.3 V UART logic
GROUND host interface USB-C power and data; integrated USB-to-UART serial COM interface
AIR wavelengths Transmit: 1310 nm / Receive: 1550 nm
GROUND wavelengths Transmit: 1550 nm / Receive: 1310 nm
Status indicators PWR / LINK / TX / RX

Integration notes

Verify the autopilot telemetry-port pinout, 5 V power availability,
and 3.3 V UART compatibility before connection. Configure the
autopilot serial port for the required protocol and select the
corresponding COM port and matching baud rate in the
ground-control software.

A compatible USB-to-UART driver may be required on the host
computer. Each module is powered locally; the optical fiber
carries data, not electrical power. Rev A2 provides serial
control and telemetry transport, not Ethernet or video transport.
